Fernald Preserve Continued - Posted 11/3/11

Well, we're back online, so I'm back to posting on my blog.  Hope we stayed connected, I am really behind in posting my late summer pictures.  I've been taking a lot of pictures of the fall foliage, hope it's not the dead of winter before I can post them.

At one time a uranium ore processing facility that served as the first link in America's nuclear weapon's production cycle.

The site's ongoing ecological restoration is being accomplished using native plants and grasses that were identified in an 1819 land survey of the area.  The Fernald Preserve contains 400 acres of woodlots, 327 acres of prairies, 140 acres of open water and wetlands, and 33 acres of savanna.

See my original post on October 11, 2011 for more information on Fernald Preserve.
